My kids LOVE this snack when I make it for them. Husband Man has a HUGE addiction to them as well. Back when my kiddos were younger, I used to make it all the time for playdates and such. This is a great snack to make for school treats as well (providing no one in the class has a peanut allergy) because at least a big Tupperware full, which would feed at least 20 kids or less.
It's been called many names....puppy chow, moose tracks, muddy buddies...chocolate and peanut butter chex mix...but we will always call it Monkey Munch :)
Monkey Munch
(makes 18-20 servings...1/2 cup each)
Ingredients:
1 box of Chex Cereal (any kind but we love it with the cinnamon kind)
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 cups of powdered sugar
Directions:
1. Place all of the cereal in a large bowl.
2. In a medium bowl, place the chocolate, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave the chocolate mixture on high for 30 seconds. Stir after that minute and add vanilla extract. Stir again until mixed well.
3. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal. Take your hands and mix the cereal with the chocolate, making sure to coat all of the cereal. The chocolate will start to harden, but that is ok.
4. Dump the 2 cups of powdered sugar in the bowl and continuing mixing with your hands. Let mixture cool by either leaving it in the bowl or placing it on wax paper. Store in an air tight container or in a zip lock bag in the fridge.
Makes for a great afternoon snack :)

umm I love Monkey Munch I had forgotten about it.
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I loved this recipe when we were kids. The moms would call it "puppy chow" and we use to beg for it. We would fight over the pieces that were "stuck together". It would be gone in no time. That is a great recipe!!
